Dr. Lara Litov

I am a third generation Washingtonian.  I received a BA in Psychology (with Pre-Med studies) from the University of Washington and a BS in Health Sciences from Bastyr University. I then continued my medical studies and graduated from Bastyr University with a Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine in 1992. I have been licensed as a Naturopathic Physician in the State of Washington since 1992.

After graduating from University of Washington, my original plan was to work a few years and go to conventional medical school. While working, I got inspired to see and experience more of the world. It was on those travels that I was first introduced to integrative and traditional medicines. During a trip to a remote area of Indonesia, I contracted a severe and life-threatening form of malaria (chloroquine resistant) along with typhoid fever (although I had been vaccinated for this).  I was taken to a hospital in Singapore where, in addition to the lifesaving conventional treatments, I was referred by the hospital physicians to Traditional Chinese Herbal Medicine providers from the local community when I was released, who treated me to help regain my strength, vitality and health.

When I returned to the US, still suffering from some significant health consequences of being so severely ill, I sought medical care.  I went to a regional medical center, who said they could not help with the long term sequelae, they could only help with the acute conditions.   I then sought  the care of a Naturopathic Physician well versed in tropical diseases. The treatments and care I received helped restore my health.  It was at this point I decided to pursue a career in Naturopathic Medicine focusing on honoring and utilizing the best of both conventional and complementary treatments.

My role on your health care team is to integrate treatments and focus on finding evidence based ways to support healing and to reach optimal health.

For more than 28 years working as a Naturopathic Physician, I have been a committed and experienced advocate for bringing all forms of medicine to the table, doing the research on what are the best options, testing, treatments, medical specialties, referrals and integrations to help and partner with my patients to restore their optimal health and well-being.

“Conventional medicine saved my life and Naturopathic & Integrative Medicine restored my health and well-being”.

Dr. Litov’s Healthcare Philosophy

  • Focus on each individual’s unique path to health.
  • Working not only with the symptoms and diagnosis of disease, but to unearth and treat the root causes in order to achieve a deeper level of optimal health.
  • Utilizing evidence-based natural treatments integrated with conventional diagnostics and medicines/treatments to work with the body and mind to achieve a better state of health and wellness.
  • Respecting and employing both traditional and conventional diagnostic tools and treatments.
  • Empower patients with knowledge, tools and treatments to help the patient make the best choices for their health.
  • Seeing and treating the whole person.  People are a complex matrix of their physical, mental, spiritual, and environmental worlds.  Addressing all of these are an important aspect of care.
  • Patients are the captain of their own healthcare ship. I am an educated guide. Patients are ultimately the decision makers concerning their own health and well-being.
