Long Covid Syndrome

It is estimated that at least 25% of people in the US are suffering with long covid symptoms.

Long-Covid Syndrome is also called Longhaulers Syndrome or Post-Acute Covid Syndrome (PASC). The fact that there are many names for this reflects the often complicated and confusing symptoms around the condition.

Long Covid is something that occurs after getting a SARS-Covid-19 infection.

It happens in people whether vaccinated or not. It happens to young and old, but seems to be more focused on younger people. It can happen in people who had an asymptomatic infection, mild infection or severe infection.

It can sneak up on you. You feel like you got better from an illness, or you didn’t get sick while the rest of the household or office did. Then 3 or so weeks later, you begin getting symptoms. The potential symptoms are broad. I have a partial list below. And they can change. Sars-Covid-19 is a complex virus and is showing to have complex multi-faceted reactions and injury to our bodies.

Treating long-covid is individualized. As an integrative provider, I individualize treatments anyway. But even conventional doctors that are working with long-covid patients are discussing that each person is so unique in presentation and course of disease that they need to treat individually.

Healing from long-covid takes patience.  I work with you to try to alleviate immediate suffering and symptoms that are impacting your daily quality of life, and at the same time get at the root of the problems and treat that. It effects more than one system, so we need to address all of them.  I work with you to sort out where we focus initially or predominantly. But it is like playing a whack-a-mole game….symptoms can go away in one place and come up in another.  And your underlying previous health, genetics, and stress all make a difference. Many many people who were very active and athletically healthy are suffering with long covid.  So, this is not all about pre-existing conditions. BUT what systems get affected the most and risks of specific serious consequences can be influenced by pre-existing conditions.

Why does long covid happen?

There is more information that comes out daily. And we learn more about this complex syndrome and how to help people feel better and heal from this.
As we all know, it is a very new virus. It is probably one of the most complex viruses that has existed. It initially was thought to be a respiratory virus, primarily attaching and attacking the respiratory system.

We now know that this virus can be found in almost all tissues of the body including the brain, endocrine system, liver and other organs, heart and vasculature and gastrointestinal tract.

We also now know that it is most likely predominantly the unique and complex spike protein found on SARS-Cov-19, or the covid19 virus. This spike protein is damaging directly and sets or cascades of damage. It also down-regulates some of the immune system and upregulates other parts. And does other things that causes symptoms and disease. This is why the symptom list for long covid and for vaccine injury or side effects is so long and encompasses so many systems of the body.

Vaccine injury from Covid-19 vaccines can look like Long Covid syndrome because the spike protein is the most likely culprit causing these same symptoms.
I study covid-19 and the pathology and symptoms of the spike protein and covid almost daily. I scour research and clinical successes around the world to try to help bring healing to my patients and clients. What I, and we as a medical community, know about long covid is growing daily.

This list of what I know helps is growing.

Long covid and vaccine injury symptom pictures are very individual, meaning that each person may present with different symptoms and some people with the same symptoms may and yet get relief from very different protocols. This truly is not a one size fits all. It is not like giving an antibiotic for strep throat and then it is gone. I also see that many symptoms need to be addressed all at once. There is a synergy with the symptoms and therefore also with treatments.
There is no easy, straightforward path. This virus is complicated, and it can and often does leave a path of complicated health issues.
But there is hope. I have worked with people with mild long covid and some with very significant and severe long covid and most in-between.

Perseverance, patience and knowing that things will get better is important. Research is showing that the majority of people are significantly better at 18 months and that was people who were not being treated for long covid. If people work doctors who specialize in long covid, like I do, I see peoples quality of life improve faster than that 18 months usually.

There is hope.
